For a while now, I have struggled with what to do with my Virtual Assistant business in regards to how it is structured. I had only just started to ramp up my VA practice when I added publishing to the mix.
My primary objective in creating Alexemi Publishing (pronounced a-LEX-a-me) was to self-publish the children's book I wrote with my daughter. I then started to work with others who also want to publish with me, and I realized that Alexemi could be its own viable company; offering its own unique mix of products and services (though not yet clearly defined).
What I couldn't figure out, was what to do with my author clients who were mixed in with my VA clients. My Author's Assistant services were becoming more specialized and my emphasis on them was starting to dilute my VA offering and convolute how my VA services were defined (as primarily administrative). Then earlier this month, something Stacy said in Virtual Moxie really resonated with me - I needed to separate my services. I needed to clarify what services I offer, to whom I offer them, and at what rate. Throwing everything into one bucket was diluting both facets of my business; the VA side and the publishing services side.
I have now put this refined vision into action. My VA services will remain with Equalibrium, and I have now created a new offering through Alexemi called Virtual Publishing Assistant (VPA) services. I also have more publishing services in the works for later this year, and appropriate clients have now been shifted over to Alexemi.
Both businesses will continue to evolve and be fine tuned, but I feel like I'm heading in the right direction now, and this is a good feeling. Thanks for the nudge, Stacy!
