If you were to describe your ideal place to work, where would it be? If you could have your ultimate office what would it look like? Would it be ultra contemporary or filled with antiques? Would your office be in a city high rise or a log cabin in the woods? Maybe you're more productive around a lot of people. Maybe your work well in solitude. Maybe you wouldn't work inside at all - maybe your Zen place is outside communing with nature. Have you ever thought about it?
I have - in fact I know exactly what my ideal office would look like. In the movie, "Something's Gotta Give" with Diane Keaton, Diane is a playwright who often works out of her Hampton's beach-front home. Her desk faces out the window overlooking the ocean; her home is inviting yet minimally decorated.
This is where I would love to work - I have always found empowerment and clarity from the ocean. As a child I loved to visit Nubble Light in Maine and sit on the rocks, listening to the waves lap the stones. It was there I felt truly at peace and my imagination would run wild.
For now, I'm happy with my modest home office where I'm surrounded by the people and possessions I love. I have a wonderful large window overlooking a wooded setting (I love to watch the birds). I'll be even happier when the weather warms up and I can take my laptop out on the deck and work outside.
But it's still nice to dream - who knows - maybe some day I'll have that ocean-view office! Where's your Zen office?
